A fun time exercising with the local stray dogs…..

April 21, 2015 by Andrea Leave a Comment

HAHA! I had so much fun today exercising I wanted to share the fun with everyone! Who can say that? Fun exercising, lol! Yes, I had so much fun I didn’t want to stop running up and down a very steep set of stairs I found near the apartment I’m staying at in Sariyer, Istanbul Turkey. There are 104 in the main set I have been exercising on. WOOHOO!IMG_0723

So here in Turkey there are stray cats and dogs everywhere. Most of them look very well fed too. They will come up to you wagging their tails or meowing for attention. They seem like they are all house pets but they get to live outdoors all the time. Yes they are dirty but they are all natural and very sweet.

IMG_0724So I was doing my morning walk up and down a very steep set of stairs to get some exercise, get back into cardio shape, and release stress. As I was walking to the stairs I noticed a few dogs starting to gather. I gave one a quick pat on the head as I was trying to stay focused, keep up my momentum, and get on with the stair climbing (oh joy). As I began to climb I felt that they were watching me so I turned to see and pulled out my phone to snap a picture. Come to find out they were actually following me up the stairs. There were two.

IMG_0719I climbed and went back down and they followed me down. Then I went back up and there were 3, then 4, then 5 dogs with wagging tails following up and down the stairs as if they were having fun. It was so cute! I noticed that after a few times one would stay at the bottom of the stairs and the other 4 would keep walking with me. They were taking turns. Since that incidence, the idea of adopting one of these mongrels seemed more appealing to me. Agreed that they’d obviously have a bigger appetite and a different diet from that of an abyssinian guinea pig diet, they’d still fill the lacuna the house is thirsting for.

I was only able to get a few pictures that turned out because it was about 5:30am and still a bit dark. I’ll have to get more pictures during the day so the stairs are more clear and show the awesome view of the sea from the top.

IMG_0722After I was done and walking back some started making a lot of noise so I told them to be quiet, keep it down. One dog responded to me with a funny low-yow yow yow sound as if he was telling the rest to keep it down cuz I asked, LOL! I have no idea but it was just comical!

I am making lots of friends and enjoying my trip so far! YEAH!
